Project 20/20 was founded to enable children to be vision screened at an early age. Many families with children between the ages of two up to eighth grade have not been educated about, nor have been offered, proper vision screening. According to Prevent Blindness America, a national nonprofit organization based in Schaumburg, IL, one in twenty preschoolers has a vision disorder that can cause permanent sight loss if left undetected.
Project 20/20 utilizes the Retinomax screening instrument, which effectively and efficiently screens children for vision problems. We also use the snellen eye chart and perform a strereo test, which is a quick test that shows the eyes are working together. The screenings are performed for a reasonable fee, on site at the children's school, providing a comfortable enviroment for the child and convenience for their parents.
Project 20/20 is dedicated to educating parents and school administrators about the need for early detection and treatment of eye disorders. Our goal is to help improve school performance and social development for as many children as possible, by offering a service that will provide early referral for a comprehensive eye exam if a vision problem is detected.
